Summer Days

The pink California skies illuminate my melanin

infused skin causing a glimmer of the perfect hour.

My heartbeat thunders high in my ears,

trapped little hopeless rhythm: I love, I love.

It’s the time during the summer when I no longer stress about school,

but whether about if I forgot to put sunscreen on.

I look around me and notice dark trees

contrasting with the pastel skies; their

leaves flowing with the tempo of the wind.

I see a chihuahua to my right and observe

the serene nature of my dog sunbathing in

the colors of peaches and lavender.

I catch the scent of my moms perfume.

The tones ringing in my body, appreciating

familiarity and security.

My soul rings and I return my focus to the

sky.

My skin shivers at the rising chill of the

evening, my eyes look at the delicate

appearance of the moon and her friends.

The pink California sky no longer is here,

But will visit me again tomorrow.
