Summer Knights
I watch the stars cry
On sweet summer nights when everything is just right
For all except those who
Are broken in jars and windowsills pleading with the night.
Whose smiles have stopped reaching their eyes
And whose fingers lay unfilled in their laps, consuming their mind between laughs.
Because when everything thing is so nice, your mind slips back
To poisoned fruit and dancing, just two.
I see my stars crack and fall not with a bang or a pop
But with one too many nights left alone with the sky.
So please, my love don't leave me alone
And please don't wish upon my soul that which
Would dash this golden glass fairytale as a last shooting star across the sky.
But if you must,
Fly high my prince, and burn as bright,
Because no feat of miricle could save
The perfect innocence of what we used to be.
Not a curse, but a cruel circumstance is the villan of this life to whom
I will pay my penance of pain in the absence of a final page.
And after the sticky summer nights do pass,
Hands once more become just that and happiness begins to sneak back
Into broken hearts, like life through concreate cracks.
