Summer lover
I step into the ocean,
Pray I don’t drown
You engulf me, swallow me down
At first I feel light as I float with your care, then I run out of oxygen-I beg for air.
The pull and push of your waves draw me in, spit me back out so I can miss you again.
Perhaps I preferred the tide,
The shore was too coarse to stand.
Cuts marked by grain prove to me I’m not enough,
Your Salt water reminds me of that familiar sting again,
I realised the tide changes, the waves I loved won’t always be there. I cannot pick and choose how I want to move.
But You have to love the ocean whole, it’s too vast to isolate, and I was to selfish too see,
That I loved you for your waves, and you loved the whole of me
