That Summer Night
I often think back to
That summer night,
A veil of warmth
Lightly draped the air
As the sky melted into
Streaks of orange and violet.
I often think back to
The birds that summer night,
Who, perfectly perched atop a sea of emerald,
Burst into a synchronized array
As the tacit itinerary
Called them into routine.
I often think back to
The quest that summer night,
When I followed the birds
Entrancingly
As they led me to an iron gate,
Who’s sun-warmed handle tempted my hand.
I often think back to
The sense of fate that summer night,
It was as if summer itself
Had expected me to come,
And there beyond the gate stood
The person, the reason, for its beckoning of me.
I often think back to
The sounds of that summer night
When the iron gate creaked opened, and revealed to me your image.
A still calmness
Grasped the air,
The soft patter of bare feet
Stepping over the smooth stone floor echoed softly
As I shyly made my way over to a twilit pool,
Who’s only inhabitant stood quietly watching me on the other side.
I often think back to
The moment that summer night
When my eyes first caught yours.
By now the sky had been
Painted with deep shades of blue,
Drops of light scattered above
As curious, crystal eyes
Gazed wondrously
Into those of gentle green.
I often think back to
The pool that summer night
When it first brought us together.
We stood in opposite ends
Of the moonlit water,
The space between us closing
As we drifted our way
Towards each other
With every step bringing us nearer.
I often think back to
The connection that summer night
When I felt so right being next to you.
As soon as we touched
Everything was perfect,
As if the warm hands of
That summer night
Had wrapped me in their arms
And led me into yours.
