Summer Night

Dear Love,

What an exciting thing it is to feel

Something so vibrant. To love,

With such a passion. To love,

With everything I have.

But what about the dangers?

When looking up at the dark summer night sky,

All I see are the stars that I’ve also found in

Your eyes. In those eyes I have seen

Something else. Pain. Heartbreak.

Crying for the help of others.

Everyone talks about the beauty of falling

In love, and experiencing the love that comes

When having a baby, or marriage, or a first kiss.

No one talks about the pain that comes after.

Give me a chance to explain myself, give me

The chance to feel something again.

Heartbreak comes with leaving and

Leaving comes with heartbreak.

It’s not my decision, it’s something

I have to do. For us. For our future.

Do you remember the first night we

Hung out? The night spent by the chilled water.

The night under the strung lights.

The night of our first kiss.

I remember every single detail from that night.

Do you? Do you remember it?

Love makes me feel more alive

Than I have ever felt. But makes me

Hear the dark voices in my head

Telling me

This is what will kill you.
