SUMMING IT UP

I enjoyed you best when …
you whispered sweet words
and your eyes danced
warm and bright
because we were together.

I enjoyed you best when ...
you held my hand when we walked
and you squeezed as if to never
let me go.

I enjoyed you best when ...
I made you laugh with my silly thoughts
and you did me one better
with wit of your own.

I enjoyed you when ...
I held you as we fell to sleep
your body warm and calm against mine
when your face held a smile meant only for me
and there was a bounce
to your every step.

I enjoyed the feel of your mind
when we shared our views of the world
when I felt the touch of your head
against my shoulder.

I enjoyed your ‘good night’ texts
when we were apart
and I enjoyed knowing
when alone
that we'd be together soon.

All of these, and more,
I will remember
and
I will look back for a while
to those many times
when you and I were one
and I
enjoyed you best.
