Like the Sun

You are like the Sun to me.

My entire world revolves around you,

the happiness I believe only you could ever truly offer me.

Because I love you, I place you high upon a golden pedestal,

Let you tower over me with a sparkling gleam in your eyes

and an unmistakeable charm in your smile.

Because I love you, I allow you to dismiss

the consequences of your mistakes;

I let my feelings circle the drain to deal with another day.

And when things are good, they are great.

I am happy and the world looks brighter.

The moments of laughter we share in warm solitude are enough

to keep a smile plastered on my face for longer than I can ever imagine.

But when things are bad, they are my worst memories in the making.

I am as gray as the clouds in the sky and the world seems to share my sadness.

Tell me why tears must fall solely from my eyes;

I mirror the rain as you stand unfazed and gleaming.

Though I am the one hurt by your actions,

I apologize for being too sensitive.

Maybe I am just too emotional.

Because I love you, I blame myself for reacting against your favor.

I tell myself that you would never mean to hurt me this way,

Though you have.

Rain will still fall whether you have an umbrella or not,

And you will still hurt me whether I shield my heart or not.

Because I love you,

I bare through the April showers until you decide to make it a good day again.

I feel a burn in my bones,

A crack within my heart,

A flood of sorrow and self loathing for thinking

I am the reason you treat me this way.

You are a torching flame that I just stood too close to.

But I realize now that I am like my own Sun.

My sole existence revolves around myself

and the happiness that I could only truly grasp through my own pursuit.

Because I loved you, I have learned to let you go,

To put my feelings first,

To not push myself aside for someone else,

To take my heart for all it is worth and deserving of.

I want to be the reason behind my smile

And allow myself to discover the rainbow hidden beneath the darkest of my days.

Because I love myself, I have decided that I will be the light of my own life;

I will be like my own Sun.
