The Sun Does Not Face You Anymore
i was your rose, you loved the way i would make you bleed when you would hold me.
you stared at me from a distance, and when you left me alone you watched as my petals fell onto the ground.
you promised you would keep me warm on the winter cold days, but you abandoned your word along with me.
i am only dirty petals now; i have made friends with the cold ground and it does not promise me love as you once did.
i see you watching me grow; seeing how strong i have become.
the sun does not face towards you anymore,
i do not need to watch you in the distance watering your other flowers.
i am alone and i am friends with the bright happy sun,
she gives me life when she sleeps so quietly.
you keep me up at night,
i am constantly in fear you will sneak up on me from behind and pluck my petals one by one in hope that i will be more beautiful without them.
i am afraid because i will not stop you.
i will die for you over and over oh so willingly and you will only kill me.
i have learned to catch the soft rain and bathe in its forgiveness,
hoping it will drown me in my sorrow.
