the sun rose this morning

The beauty I see when I look in the mirror

Only becomes clear based on others’ perception

No word is more impossible to be

Than perfection

The media tells me that I need to be thinner,

I’m not considered “good enough” until I’m a winner

Beginners like me enter a world so profane

And already painful self-talk and thoughts in my brain

Society’s attempt to drown me out is consistent

And sometimes my confidence appears non-existent

But still everyday I wake with motivation

To be better than yesterday and fight degradation

My attitude is what sets me apart from the pack

I’m not defined as backing down from my opinions of facts

Looking back on what’s passed is pointless as of the present

Because the glass is half full and the future looks pleasant

The sun rose this morning but nobody seems to be grateful

Hateful words on our minds

I prefer things that are relevant

And place myself in an environment that expands my intelligence

I have numerous flaws that anyone could expose

But I don’t hurt myself by imposed opinions of those

Who don’t see what I see, which is what makes me beautiful

That a positive attitude is a lifestyle I chose
