The Sun Sets in the Wes

“Off with your heads!” you scream

or rather whispered “roll it over here in case I should fancy it someday”

So here we sit

Your hysterical words spitting down our necks and restricting our uncomfortable shiftings

Having made ourselves vulnerable to each other and to you

At your sick request

Here we relinquish

Stark to the cold sniffles among us

Side by side by side by side

Accepting of defeat and of the invincibility dangled so far out of our reach

As you vomit up a storm of beration and hate

Seemingly unprovoked, but you soon lay with grace your enlightenment of the issue upon our backs

It’s us

Forcibly exposed and tricked into trust at your tiny hand

Molded and coaxed to be forthcoming with our dreams and innermost whatevers

And I watch as you create a group of young people who allow themselves to be hurt

To be abused

Or perhaps the abuser

You’ve created these monsters and victims as polarized reflections of yourself

And somehow this is not insulting to you, the almighty

Because these ill miniatures will do as you please when you please or you don’t

I watch as you praise the people you have made smaller, as if it’s a compliment

That the only backbone they have is constructed from the pain of their peers

I watch as their eyebrows raise in perfect synchrony with yours

In response to one of us; the extraordinary who have evidently crossed over to being the threatening

It has become unfathomable that this place, first in my head and then under my feet, was once full of love

Love for me. Love for all of us. From all of us. From you.

Now I am only worthy of a kind word when it boosts your frail frame

I am only extraordinary when it can rub off on your old, tired skin

And god forbid I stand up for myself

God forbid I say what I feel

God forbid I defend the friend of mine you are attacking

Mercilessly, you are convincing us that you are God and you forbid

I sit here in shock and I watch some more as the world literally begins to revolve around you

As you create expendables who pitifully crawl back down these stairs in three days time when they’ve forgotten what you called them

It is as if you are young and old all at once

Young enough to justify your abuse with naivety and narcissism, but old enough to know the truth

The truth that someday those of us that have crossed over will return and resume our being extraordinary

We will have risen, from the depths of your cyclically embarrassing pit, to the stars

And it will be of no thanks to you

So I watch

As you fall so suddenly

Descending from the pedestal I once placed you on

Did you even notice?
