Sunburn

You sunk deep into my skin;

Under it, maybe.

When I started to forget

About us, and our scarlet

Infatuation, it

Turned me tan,

But left your mark

On me in meandering lines.

Irritable layers of epidermis

And memories

Begged to be shed, so

I began to try to peel

All at once.

Instead both came off

In patches; slowly,

Gradually,

And took entirely

Too long.
