Sunday Mornings

Early mornin breakfast

Savory smell of country ham

And the saturating sweet dewy air

Hearing the birds chirp singing a sweet song

And the rustling of the draft thru the screen door

Grandma ask, “Boy sit down and have sum’. “

Seeing the grits, bacon, eggs, toast, preserve, and country ham

Mama telling me, “Your clothes on the ironing board

They’ve been pressed and ready to go.”

Only have 2 hours until the sermon

So, I got to be hasty

The only Sunday I don’t feel like being slick

Knowing I’ll be able to hang out with my cousins

And have more to reminisce on

Sunday morning like this is what I love.
