Sunflower

A hint of beauty in these embers

As they're climbing for the stars

We pack on clothes to brace the winter

And warm our hands just like we're taught

But there's a sound that I'm not hearing

Over the crackling of the flame

Louder than the hanging silence

You scream inside that I'm to blame

I know that it's not easy

Won't you please hear me out?

I know that life can be so busy

And it's hard to trust a word of mouth

I will stand by your compassion

And I pray that I'll remove your doubt

My trembling lips have come to risk it

I shape my words for you, my love

I find that I'm my own worst critic

Yet your patience has stood above

So if your will brings you to leave me

I am stronger to know your name

I will think of all the silence

But know that I won't be the same
