sunflowers in the rain
I’ve always liked the color yellow.
which is why
I’d always lighten up
at the sight of my pretty yellow sunflowers
basking in rays of sunshine,
a bright sentiment
that makes me feel complete
and happy.
But what is
this empty feeling in my chest?
Why won’t the sun shine
on my garden anymore?
My precious flowers sit dull and lifeless
under a cloud-filled sky.
Darkness is now all they can see.
My heart aches for their longing
to touch light once again.
Yet soon did I realize
that perhaps these rain clouds
were always meant to be.
I never was happy.
I was never complete.
This bittersweet mix of yellow and blue,
The sunflowers and the rain together,
all along,
it has always been me.
