Sunrise

(written 6/1/2015)

My humbled breaths come out shakily in the form of feathery clouds

My body is layered fleece to skin under a foggy indigo canopy

The sun may not be visible

But I’d rather watch the sky illuminate than blankly watch the ceiling in my room

As my thoughts painfully drain the blood from my veins,

Dew-scented breezes brush the grass blades against one another.

The earth smells of green and golden

Long after the midnight hour,

I had laid down in bed, but sleep ran from me like a kitten with a toy

And I was not in the mood to play

I rose before the sun and awaited her warm kiss

I couldn’t find sustenance in people

So I found it in loneliness and onyx skies

And the sunrise in her orange glory

The earth seems dead

But the deep breathing of the early clouds reminds me

She keeps moving even when it is too dark to see past the evening shadows

Night is erased by the dim rosy light of the sun

Everyone has left my young bones feeling lost and old and faded

But the earth has shaken me to burning life

The earth never leaves me even when I want to leave her

Broken asphalt

Sheets of grass and dancing flowers and mangled twigs making forts in the dirt

Cradling this body seemingly made of glass

The sky explodes

The sun cries out loud and paints her ceiling with her tears like a temporary abstract painting

Indescribable

Here one minute; gone the next

Just like me

I am not alone here
