Sunset
The gentle sway of the leaves
is mesmerizing against the background of the sky,
a whole rainbow, each shade blending perfectly into the next.
Colorful clouds blur
as they stretch towards infinity.
Listen to the insects cheer,
welcoming the impending darkness.
Streetlamps instinctively flicker on, understanding that the
slender crescent moon alone won't be enough to
light the sky once night has invaded.
The temperature drops
as the sun's warmth flees the air,
but, for now, I am numb to the change.
As the sun's journey southward
reaches its conclusion, my state of peacefulness disappears.
I sneak one last peek at this beautiful scene and
my heart longs for the next evening's
spectacular encore performance.
