Sunset scenery

Palm trees swaying and riptides crashing on the rocks. As I gaze into the sunset, I feel reassured that you will still be with me, endlessly swimming in and out of my thoughts like the waves on this beach. Our house remains the same even after you left my side. I tidy up the living room and your trophies every night, hoping you will emerge out of the water, shivering. Limping into the living room where the fireplace shines bright. Thinking of that day makes me want to turn back time and stop you from leaving my side — leaving our side. The kids miss you so much; they continue to surf even after your departure. I just watch them on the shore, alongside my board and a life jacket. Sometimes, I get jolted by splashes of water on my feet. It is as if an electric current just rushed up my body, distorting my senses. The sea may have consumed your body, my love, but it can't ensare your soul. Every grain of sand and every plank of our house is baptised with your blood, sweat and tears. Tears streaming down your face as you were building John's crib. After five years, we could finally walk into that empty corner room with buckets of paint. Tears shining like liquid gold, flowed down your face when Angelica rode her first wave after six months of your coaching. The tides were shimmering in different shades of blue, remember? The everlasting beauty of your smile haunts and inspires us to accept your absence but what we really want is to see you surfing again in the sunset scenery, gliding to the rhythms of the ocean.
