Supposed To Be

Is this how love is supposed to be?
I wouldn’t know.
From what I’ve seen, you’re my first real love.
See, I thought I knew what love was until I met you,
and now I’m convinced that what I thought I knew
wasn’t so familiar after all.
You’re my first REAL love.
We fell real hard, real fast,
and I loved it.
I love you.

Is this how love is supposed to be?
I know our love is true, and they say truth hurts
so, I guess I’ll hurt too.
Love is pain, and pain is love,
right?
No two loves are the same; so maybe, just maybe
this is OUR love.
No pain, no gain.

Is this how love is supposed to be?
Opposite end of the spectrum when everything is fine.
You’re mine
and I can’t seem to keep a straight face.
Like warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream;
from two different worlds entirely,
yet so irresistible when they connect.
A perfect union.

We had a falling out of sorts.
Love crossed the line and has been dancing on it ever since.
Telling love to leave the line alone is not only an act that’s potentially foolish of me,
its demanding something that cannot be done.
Because of what my eyes have seen,
what my ears have heard,
what my heart has felt,
my love for you remains chained to that line.

And I know the key to unlock that chain lies within.
The key to free my love from anyone and anything;
the key that will allow my love to dance without boundaries
and fill my world with joy;
I know that key lies within.

What I don’t know is
why I’m afraid to use it.
What I don’t know is
what will happen if I do.
What I don’t know is
if this is how love is supposed to be.
