The Surface

I am drowning They cannot hear me, no They cannot listen It must be “cannot” There is no “will not” or “do not” Not with them, and not for me Not for me, from them I am drowning The bruises form, I Feel them spread If they could feel it No, they do not listen Not to me, from where they stand I was drowning before the portests I was drowning before the speeches I was drowning before I was even a babe I am drowning Because they hold me Not the ones with changing skin Not the ones with fear of God I drown by the hand of those, who Fear me They fear me One day, I will surface To a world beyond fear and heat Until then I am drowning In this sea of blinded hate
