Surgery- a sestina
Your life begins with the first breathe you take
Death may be the end or a new beginning.
Sometimes people waste words.
As surgeons we waste time
We forget to love and live
Our heads are so far in the job.
Our jobs shape us.
It gives us life, a reason to live
We love our job but we forget to see and love the world outside the hospital.
Death is something we see on a daily basis.
And time is not always on our side
That's when the days get longer and we begin to waste our free time.
We waste our words, our time and our free time.
but we do it for the job.
From time to time we go out but it's rare.
Our lives revolve around scalpels
And even when life takes its toll on us, we get right back up again.
Because we wake up every morning as surgeons and love what we do.
Our love is real; true.
We waste no time in the OR
Death is not an option for our patients.
It's our job to save them.
Their lives are in our hands.
And if they die it's on our time.
The time spent at the hospital is unimaginable.
We love it so much it's hard to leave
Surgery becomes our life.
We waste time in on-call rooms avoiding the world and the people around us.
Our job means everything to us. it is everything to us.
Till death do us part
Death can come at any moment
Time is a gift
but our job means more to us than any present.
Our love for it will never die
and it's okay that we waste our time
its part of a surgeons life.
This is my job
This is my life
and this is what I love to do.
