Surrender
I know how it is, how it should be,
no one could possibly tell me any differently.
I’m rightly justified, you must be mistaken,
I am unequivocally impeccable, no fakin’.
So what if I partake in transgressions a little,
least I’m not a full blown offender,
or partyin’ it up with Grey Goose and sinners.
What’s that you say, that’s not enough for you?
Well I’ll tell you what, why don’t you step into my…
Forgive me, least I forget in the mist of my rage,
that long ago you yourself flesh and bone,
did experience privation outside your divine home.
I know, I know… you gave it all up for me,
you suffered, and bleed and died on that tree.
But try to understand, I don’t have what it takes.
There’s no way, no way on earth I could muster
the strength that it takes to rise above my impious hunger.
What? You want me to what?
Why would I do that; it’s distasteful to my pride,
unthinkable to my reasoning – it’s weak.
What about my plans, my passions and my dreams.
Just like that huh? You want me to let go,
and raise the white flag of surrender, no more to tow.
But I’m so afraid, losing it all seems so hard to imagine;
what kind of future will I have, what’s going to happen?
You say you’ve got a plan, something better for me,
and that you’ll open up my eyes to possibilities unseen.
How can I trust that’s the case,
and how can I know it won’t be a mistake.
There’s only one way to find out – Jesus take control.
