Surrounded By Four Walls
A poet got to have a sweet time creating her poetry;
A poem do not got to rhyme
If life rhymed, there would be a balance- no hard time
No one would trying to be making a living of any kind. .
For a dime
Life is hard enough already
Let the poet kid do her thing
Watch her hand as it flows glamorously
So unlike her life story;
Pouring on the pages
While the days shine, the nights get a glimpse of her quiet thoughts
In a beautiful neighborhood, she lives
Stays out of trouble, but you can not take the trouble out of her
Through her drawings, hearts are traced
Read again cause this not about a heart being filled
For she carries a past that still has her quite drilled
A few miles away
On a corner of San Quentin
There lives a middle-aged man
To the world, on that day,
He must have been seen as a psycho
But to her, he is her lost uncle
When she is happy
She feels ashamed
When she travels
She realizes how lucky she is to be free
Surrounded By Four Walls
Uncle grows desperate
Been crying for a change, a long time
Sometimes he cries cause his hands hurt
Why they got to be so mean?
Can they not see this is a love waiting to be reunited?
She whispers, “Uncle stay strong, when you feel like
Dying, ask God to give you strength”
As the day ends, a new day begins
She wonders if he plays that day like a broken record,
And if he has learned to forgive himself
Although life goes on,
There are still hearts that hate
She understands, but everyone hurts
She hopes someday they will learn to forgive
Until then,
Uncle’s story does not end until God says so
