Survival

Eyes locked in concentration
Taking every scent and sound
Merging with the ground
Silent and deadly as the night
Moving with swiftness and grace
Anticipation of a wild chase
Heart beating the jungle rhythm
The predator licks his lips
Prey so close and oblivious
Poised to take the courageous leap
The pumping of adrenaline
A meal ready for consumption
Suddenly another growl
Larger predator takes the leap
Claws sharpened, exposed teeth
And bites into the prey
In disappointment and hunger
He takes his leave without a second sight
Knowing he won’t survive the fight
So he settles for another hungry night.
