Surviving

Food.

Water.

Shelter.

The three basic neccesities to survive.

But if I was stuck on an island,

And I had to chose one thing to have with me,

It wouldn't be food or water or shelter,

It would be you.

Because without you I couldn't survive.

I tell myself everyday you're missing in my life,

It's because you have your goals and I have mine.

You in the navy, on one side of the ocean,

And me, studying marine life on the other side.

But everytime I'm asked that cliche question,

"If you could choose one thing to have while stranded on an island",

It's always you!

It's always you I choose.

Why can't we meet on an island in the middle of the ocean?

Why can I only acknowledge I need you when the stakes are live or die?

Why do I go through each day pretending it's fine and that I'm surviving,

When I couldn't make it even a day stranded on an island without you?

Why don't I compromise on our petty little issues?

When I need you to breathe, to quench my thirst,to feed my soul, to house my heart?

When you are all I need to survive.
