Susana

She, the lone woman, took the matters

by the tired, wrinkled hands that would find no rest

God saw her, a rescued soul with a golden heart

but she did not see him.

Tragedy has fallen upon her life-

the loss of everything has taken a toll

even at the youngest of ages, she underwent

The night turned into day

as the day into night

for her four brothers whom she raised

only to grow away and apart

from the only pieces of family she had held

Her windless kingdom slowly transformed

into a springful wonder, it became

with her three children she kept dear.

The triumpth she hath achieved

was of pure content.

To live of happiness and simplicity

after ages in the dark-

she is the light.

she is my grandmother.
