Swapping Roles

The hardest part of growing

is witnessing the change,

that both my parents go through

while they start to grow and age.

At first it was their strength

which started to decline.

They always seemed exhausted

so I took it as a sign.

A change in eating habits

which too left me concerned.

A need of help in all they did,

Oh how the tables have turned.

And that is when it hit me,

that im no longer young.

Instead it's now my turn

to give back for all they've done.

And cherish every minute

before God takes their souls,

before it gets too late

and they'll no longer keep their roles.

They'll witness signs of aging,

one day struggle to stand.

And soon all of their duties

will fall into my hands.

I'm no longer a child,

make room for me to grow.

My parents getting older

taught me everything I know.
