Sweater

Patiently you wait,

my counselor and consoler,

counting the moments until our next embrace.

 Emitting a dusty sigh of loneliness,

 you long to provide comfort once more.

When I find I begin to unravel,

you are there;

whenever I need protection

you, with every fiber of your being,

struggle to serve as an ultimate barricade.

Unfortunately it’s a big world out there

and its winds blow cruelly;

I won’t be able to rely on you forever.

Come summer, I know

I’ll have to brave it alone.
