Sweet Sleep

Sleep - where it's safe.

No dreams, just sweet blissful darkness.

Safe from what? From the world,

from their well-meant words,

from the stares that have grown so cold.

Silence - every second tearing me apart.

Eyes sliding closed, tired.

Tired of what? Of life,

of that bright intruding light,

of those questions I just cannot answer.

Why. Why. Why.

I don't fucking know.

I want to scream, I want to cry; and above all, I want to sleep.

They don't understand, perhaps neither do I.

Years have passed with no answer to be found.

I still want to scream, to cry, to sleep the days away.

It doesn't fade, maybe it never will.

It doesn't matter, because my diploma hanging on my wall

is proof that I tried in spite of it all,

and sometimes trying is all it takes.
