Sweet Smiles

Smiles are flighty creatures

they come and go in an instant

like your train of thought when you lose it

or that shooting star you wish would stay forever

sometimes smiles creep up on you

slowly tugging on the corners of your mouth

until before you know it

you’re grinning from ear to ear

but the best kinds are the ones that stay

the ones given by someone you love

the ones that linger there

caressing your lips in a sweet embrace

even when you leave.
