Sweet Tea

So many years and so many songs
A handful of rights and a couple of wrongs
I think to this journey, and the kindness it brings
To think of each step and each way that it sings
The first four were young, sprung into action
But we were foolish and fluid, we could never gain traction
Then the thus longest dance, a harmonious tune
But it all fell apart, each from our own gloom
The next three were hands, some trust they could find
They grew and got better, to have peace of mind
The next one was ice and the other one fire
First numbing and jarring, then burned with no desire
I have not regretted the steps that I took
But I know I am fallible, harsh in some others book
I’ve spent a year thinking, a year dreaming, stepped away
To make happiness from small things, one each and every day
And I’m surprised I might find it, but doubled this time
For all my time looking, I might have found mine
My own sun and my starlight, bright as eye can see
I am glad that I found it, my own cup of Sweet Tea
