Swim Up

Tonight the rain holds only sinister trees

Branches looming overhead

Watching, waiting

Hungry and cold they follow you

Long shadows waiting for you to step in

And sink below to their infinite depths

No light shines here,

And only water fills your lungs

Swim up

Tonight the rain holds only drums

Pounding to the beat of your panicked footsteps

Fast, angry

Ominous and dangerous it follows you

Compelling beat waiting for you to hear it

So it may take you in and drown you

No light shines here

And only water meets your eyes

Swim up

Do not drown here

Do not let the rain fill you from the inside out

Because to drown would be the

Cruelest form of breathing

No light shines here

And only water holds you down

Swim up

Up

And up

And

Up
