The Tables Have Turned

I can't count the hours I spent thinking of you
Wishing you would speak to me
Hoping with my every cell you would talk to me
That we would hold hands in the hallway
And you would give me your sweatshirt
That you would whisper in my ear and
Wrap your arms around my waist
Not caring that your popular friends
Were watching and judging you for
Liking someone shy and meek, but
That never happened. None of it.
I used to know everything about you
Your football number, your bus number,
How many siblings you have, your parents' names
I used to a have a list saved in my phone of
Pointless facts I had accumulated
Everyone knew of my obsession, even you
I thought the feeling was mutual, but turns
Out I was blinded by pure puppy love
You didn't like me back then and I
Thought you never would
Until now.
We're in high school now
The big scary school filled with cliques
I found my place among my group
I became more outgoing and bold
Puberty hit me like a semi-truck
When the braces came off and my skin
Became smooth and soft, I turned pretty
I lost twenty pounds of middle school fat
Going from a size 7/8 to a model 2
And moved on from my crush on you
Never giving you a second glance or thought
Until now.
We share English together
I can't deny the old sparks that ignite
When we catch each other's eyes
Or how my heart beats a little faster when
You stare at me, thinking I don't notice
I do.
You're intimidated by me because
Of the attention I receive from other boys
You see them staring as I strut down the halls
You think I won't give you a chance
You rest your thumb on your lip and
Slowly crawl your eyes up my legs until
Your eyes meet mine and I smirk at you
I see you blush lightly and smile back
I know you wish I would talk to you
That I would hold your hand in the hallway
That I would ask to wear your sweatshirt
That I would let you wrap your arms around me
Whisper in my ear and claim me as yours
But that is never going to happen. None of it.
