Tainted

What has love become?

A glass that has too often been sipped,

its porcelain rim tainted by the saliva of our lust;

We breathed our germs of selfishness and pride into its perfect glassy structure.

Something crafted so carefully with steady

 perfect

hands

has become a mirage of what it was handcrafted to be.

We were blessed by God’s unblemished grail which mirrored His uncorrupted love

and we spat upon its once pure and undefiled reflection.

Christ’s love encompasses all good things.

Patience and its long, satiating, and pure drink has become a wine which is now only devoured in a quick and impatient gulp.

Kindness that once was an unconditional molding paste has

                    away

by the breath of conditionality,

Sending spider cracks within the core of the chalice.

Jealousy lapped its long, green, and gritty tongue of envy around the rim of trust, poisoning what was once pure.

Humble lips which once gently sipped have been replaced by prideful sneers, fangs

            scuffing

            scraping

            scratching the glass.

Joy and gaiety decorated the goblet with vibrant and beautiful stained color, love

Glowed

 in the light

until our animosity and bitterness spat dirt upon its beauty.

Our desire and lust oozed around the beautiful gauntlet, until the elegance

disappeared

and we were left with

brokenness

unwholesomeness

imperfections filled with the impurity of our unholy passion.

Only with a substance so pure, so sacrificial, filling in the      gaps     we have created can we gain a glimpse of the beauty the grail represents and the sapor that once filled it.

We were given perfection –

we tainted,

He wrapped His pure and sacrificial blood around the chalice, cleansing it once again.

Only can God know the purest love

only He has tasted its true pleasure

only He would give up its wonder to quench our wicked thirst –

only the purest and most perfect love would do such a thing.
