Take a Walk in My Shoes

I was that little black girl everyone laughed at and actually believing everything they said

I was that girl who tried to please everyone.

I am that girl who is resilient

I can be hurt, but cannot be broken.

I am that girl that had their grandfather as their best friend

I am the one who helped take care of him when he was diagnosed with lung cancer

I am that girl who sat and cried in the hospital when he died. I am still that hurt little girl, but I am a survivor

Because of him I am going to be a wonderful nurse

My best friend has had an impact of my coming of age

I am grateful of everything that has happened in my life because it has molded me into that strong person I am today.
