Taken
Your badge says you’re supposed to protect me
But your actions say you won’t
How am I supposed to feel protected
When I’m surrounded by officials who don’t?
You use your authority for bad
And that makes wethepeople mad
Because we can’t defend ourselves
From you, that can kill
You, that can get away with your crime
You, that will judge me because of the way I look
So you took
And you took
And you took
The lives of my colored brothers and sisters
And their mothers crying for their fallen children
I wish you could see that we are all God’s children
Meaning we’re the same
And you shouldn’t build your fame
Off of our pain
Don’t kill cause you feel threatened by the color of our skin
Use your weapon only when you feel truly threatened
But you should know this
I’m sure it’s written in the handbook
So why is it that you took
And you took
And you keep taking my people’s lives away?
And why is it that you shy away
Like it’s the victim's fault
But we won’t be bought
By your shenanigans
Because we know it will happen again
And this shouldn’t be
This is the land where we’re supposed to be free
Yet this concept of freedom is foreign
And equality is only known when you’re white
Because “they’re the only people living right”
In America
Land of the free and home of the brave
We are broken
We are oppressed
Not only between us
But by the people above us
When will these things change
And true equality and freedom finally reign?
The answer is unclear
And so is the solution
But one thing that’s clear is:
We shouldn’t stop reaching
Shouldn’t stop fighting
Shouldn’t stop dreaming
For change
Because we’ve come too far
To let fear driven people be the winners of this game
We call life
So it’s time that we fight
For our rights
Why should we try?
How?
Well, we should try because we’ve come too far
To give up now
