The Takeover

Hello, I just found this beautiful page, so here's my first poem.

THE TAKEOVER
I've seen the morning awash with light and colour
Suspended in time, waiting for the change
By the afternoon, the light was growing duller
And I knew the evening would only bring us pain
When evening came and they started the reign
Of fear and despair. And no one seemed to care
Now all the mornings and afternoons too
Are all the same for me and for you
And I was waiting, waiting for the change
I was hoping the world would think it strange
But no one came, and no one tried, and we had nowhere to hide
Just waiting for the moment, would we live or would we die?
We walk around wondering if we would be saved
In the land of the free and the home of the brave
We were blind to what we couldn’t see
And as we huddled in our fear, they declared their victory
And I was waiting, waiting for the change
I was hoping the world would think it strange
But no one came, and no one tried, and we had nowhere to hide
Just waiting for the moment, would we live or would we die?
As we wandered aimlessly with scared and listless hearts
Afraid for our lives and just breaking apart
We realized that this is what compliance brings
As we yield to our country and bow to our king
And we keep waiting, waiting for the change
Just hoping the world will think it strange
And if no one comes and no one tries, we’ll have nowhere to hide
Just waiting for the moment, would we live or would we die?
