Taking On

Taking On

My heart pummels my rib cage.

She demands release from sorrow.

blows pound my breast is a reminder;

She needs out of this trap.

suffering I imposed into her delicacy

brings my battered thing to end.

She cannot stay here.

She needs escape; I comply.

tender loving home has been offered

filled with adoration and kindness

Can I let her go?

She deserves least this of me.

to release I take one in return

but too easy it busts in my hands.

boping is possible when mine is muddied

His heart? No, it’s priceless and perfect

She berates me until I know.

I accept and hand off because I love her

I shouldn’t be within miles of his heart.

as I hold it, I know this is love.
