Taking a chance

Is it wrong to be scared

To not know how to be prepared

Because we’ve come from so much pain and agony

With peace and hope I can’t just keep imagining

All the possibilities that could happen

Hoping that you discover your own passion

Not just to live for small satisfaction

Asking for you to take action

Because you remember the stories of the protest

All for unjust arrest

Men and women just trying to be there best

And if I may confess

I’m scared of the process

Being judged for what I’ve been born with

That nappy natural hair

The type that needs much care

On my knees learning the Lord’s Prayer

That dark soft skin

Better than the works of the cotton gin

Cause you remember what pac said

“The darker the skin the deeper the roots”

I’ve got all the attributes

But is that what you see

I know in my heart what I keep

Is it wrong to be scared

To not know how to be prepared

Should I just take a chance

All in one glance

For my dreams to be enhanced

Should I just take a chance

Escape this trance

Oh should I just take a chance
