Tale of two Nights

They say that the brightest day comes after the blackest night

And that when you're at the bottom things can only go up

But I think the people who said this hoped they were right

For they needed a reason not to give up

Maybe it is just my experience where it always the inverse

And I feel as if I am free falling

Off the tallest thing in the universe

And there is no possible stalling

And I keep going looking for something to grasp

Only to find my hands burned and raw

Unable to yell because my voice is rasp

I finally land and I survive though I am all broken and mangled

I look at the mountain, which took time to build

I know that I have to get started again so I untangle

Myself and begin to rebuild

Now stuck in the shadow of what I used to be

And wondering if this is how it's always gonna be
