Talking

Phone calls that

Last all night

Because we fall asleep

Together

Staying up too late

Just to talk about

Your day

Stories filled with

Tangents and laughter

Told in sleepy voices

Barely louder than a

Whisper

Small moments of silence

Listening to each other

Breathe

Only for a softly asked question

To start a new conversation

Indecisive about everything

But you

Maybe one day soon

Those phone calls

Won’t be phone calls at all

But a real conversation

We have under a

Pile of blankets
