Taming a Beast
Taming a Beast
By TJ Calabrese
A near endless plain surrounds me,
Stretching beyond the horizon,
But it is not the reason I feel small.
A fearsome beast towers before me.
I dive under it,
Narrowly avoiding obliteration.
Suddenly I see another beast,
Looming on the horizon,
As tall as a tower, and wider than a wall.
I calmly bolt in front of it,
Staying out of its reach,
Baiting it, teasing it.
When the time is right, I leap atop the beast,
Ride it into the terrain below.
It dies down and sinks, conquered.
Then I paddle back out and catch more waves.
