To Tango with Poetry
My fingers curl around the pen
As the orquesta tipica of my soul
Takes up their instruments
My heart will lead
And the words will follow
For this is the tango of my poetry
I tremble with anticipation
And close my eyes
For it is only on this snow white floor
That I feel truly free
At the first notes of the bandoneons
My heart releases a deep breath
That it didn't know it was holding
And takes the first step
The words follow its lead
Though awkward at first
Soon they move as one
In a close embrace
They dance without fear of judgement
For there are no wrong steps in tango
This is their dance
And their dance alone
The violins, bass, and flute join in
And the two dance with more passion still
Soaring across that snow white floor
Tears in their eyes
But smiles on their lips
As they let go of all the pain
That the music made them face
And celebrate all of the joy
That the music made them remember
Entwined in each other
They support one another
And find peace
The song comes to an end
The tango is over
Slowly I open my eyes
And set down my pen
I can't help but smile as
I look down at my paper
Though far from being
The most elegant of dancers
There was a beauty
In the passion and honesty
Of my heart and my words
Perhaps I will be the only one
To ever see it
But that is not important
What is important is
That I recognize that beauty
That my heart dared to dance
That it faced the pain
That it remembered the joy
And that it found peace
