Tar

You're the tar in my lungs The constant reminder that you'll always be with me With every cough another memory Another memory another night of thinking Thinking as my lungs decay but the memories never fade away Memories keeping my mind at bay Just let my ship sail Why won't the storms just calm Why won't the clouds just part This freezing weather is making the coughing worse with every passing evening the memories come in waves trying to drown my boat sailing the other side of hope The hope to see you again one more time One more time give me one last hit only one more hit to fill my lungs maybe they'll explode and I can move past the memories My lungs are decaying but I don't mind I sit alone. Another drag. Where we were was not so bad But at the time, I could not see How you longed to stay awake with me But now your down and out from all this mix of substance You left my heart with a map yet no compass You were my direction, my routine, my safety Now I just chain smoke And long for what could have been What we'll never be.
