Tara

Nine months of pregnancy
Five hours of labor
And I finally hear the cries
Of my child fill the air

His father, Travis
Died two months ago
Fighting for our country
For our freedom, our all

Travis made me promise
I wouldn't call our son
The same name as him
He wanted our boy to grow up
And make a legacy all his own

The nurse just finished
Cleaning my baby off
And now he's in my arms
'What will you name him?'

I look down and smile
At his chubby face
Squinting in the new light
Of a world just for him

'Hiram' I whisper
Tears beginning to roll
Holding him up to my face
I murmur softly in his ear
'Hiram, the world is ready,
         make your legacy!'
