To Tat or Not to Tat
To tat, or not to tat: that is the question:
Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to obey
The wants and wishes of my mother
Or to take initiative and create an ocean of rebellion
And by opposing create it? To risk: to listen;
No more; and by risk to say I violate
The trust of my parents and the relations
That we have established, ‘tis a marking
Deeply to be desired. To risk, to listen;
To listen: perchance to win the blessing: ay, there’s an idea
For in that submission, dreams may come
When we have decided on this lifelong idea,
Must give us resolution: there’s a trust
That makes my decision of this so difficult;
For I would live with the decision for life,
The mother’s condemnation, the father’s disappointment,
The pangs of rebellion, the family’s dissatisfaction
The audacity of adolescence and the consequences
That await when the act is done,
But I myself want such a thing
Am I being selfish? I would take all expenses,
To pay and bear the discomfort that may arise,
But the dread of disobeying,
The possible loss of trust from my parents
And the problems that could arise, the pain I will endure
Then is this all worth it?
My conscience may be clouded
And thus creating a cowardly decision;
But it is something long contemplated
And the expense of such art is of great worth
With this regard, I hope my parents’ opposition reverses,
I hope to gain the gift of their blessing,
Until then…
To tat or not to tat,
‘Tis the question
