Tattoos are forever [even on hypothetical deserted islands].
—I’ve never needed anyone to while away the day.
—And I wonder if I have ever truly loved anything.
[Perfect for a stranded soul]
I’ve always been content to float between states of being.
My life, broken into distinct periods. Then they are over.
[Never look back]
The only aspect that moves from phase to phase with me is the ink on my skin,
Atlas rising from my lower ribs, lifting the world to my shoulder blade.
[How I show a world I don’t understand]
John Galt’s words inscribed in the shape of a Titan.
The road map to my self, peaking through in pieces.
[The ink, my soul entwined]
More than necessity, by desire—
the tattoo I would keep with me.
