Taxes

Speaking to a co-worker,
Casual words,
Taxes?
That's something for adults,
Something to complain about at dinner parties,
But I have been working,
Every day and every night,
My taxes are due.
A long night filled,
Complicated forms,
Confusion, and
Checks.
At the end,
there was a big button on my screen,
"Click here to complete your taxes for 2017"
To the government,
It was standard,
I was another check,
but to me,
I was finally participating,
I had made my contribution,
I paid my taxes.
