Nothing to show
Cheers ring the field
The ball sailed through smoothly
The game is won
The coach looks over her, towards the team
Afterward, the teacher walks the aisle
Handing out papers to students waiting
The student holds hers, disappointment showing
The teacher says, “I expected more.”
Later, cheers ring the field again, but from the other fans
The ball sailed through smoothly,
But sent from the other team
Her coach says, “I expected more.”
Later, the teacher walks the aisle
Handing out papers to students waiting
She holds her, excitement showing
The teacher walks on
From a pot already dry
To many cracks taking, none giving
Everything gone, yet nothing to show
