Teach Me

College English is tough.

The only class where I’m told what to feel and how to feel it.

Isn’t education all about expanding your mind?

Not forming to a box made of corners and lines?

This essay makes me sad, yet hopeful.

The teacher tells me no, that disgraceful.

She says that I’m stupid, and my opinion is false.

Funny, I thought opinions were my own interpretations.

Never knew the way I saw things could be wrong.

I better get a new pair of eyes.

A pair from the English Composition 110 Inc.

Then maybe I could give the teacher the answer that she wants.

Instead of using my brain to form my own thoughts.

The most important thing College English has taught me,

Is that looking at the world from a new point of view is wrong.

Follow the book, do what the teacher says.

Or she’ll give you an F, for using your head.
