Teach Me This

There are people dying out there
People hungry, people homeless.

And these people in here
Could be making a difference.

But they are worrying about A’s and B’s
And F’s and D’s.
When I’m wondering if those letters
Really make a difference?

Yes, education is important—
Of course it is—
But there is a point where it almost becomes
Too much.

Who cares if I can derive
6x^3-2x+5?

But what if I could change the life
Of just one single person.
Teach me to do that.

Teach me to feed the hungry,
To care for the sick,
To be a role model for children.

Teach me the importance of
Math, and science, and history
In the real world.

Teach me what it means to
Be a difference-maker,
A life-saver,
An answer to someone's prayers.

Teach me this,
And then you will be
A real teacher.
